What is a caption? Captions are visual versions of the spoken word. Captions are firstly used for users who are deaf, so they are able to understand a video.

Also known as a cut line, a caption will be shown below a picture or be embedded into a video. Captions may draw attention to an important aspect in a picture or video. It may also show information on the specific media. One of the most popular subjects for captions is funny animals, other also include funny people, demotivational and more.

Funny Captions Explained

• ‘Demotivational’ – ‘demotivational pictures’ are slogans given to photos, sometimes ironic and generally motivational. To be inspired.
• ‘Lol’ - ‘to lol’ means ‘laugh out loud’
• ‘Fail’ is used when a picture or video goes not as expected. The people involved will have failed while perusing an activity. For example: Jane hits her head on the roof while jumping as high as she can.
• ‘Epic Fail’ is used in the same context as the ‘fail’ but in a more extreme basis.
• ‘Win’ is used just like the real meaning but will be in jest. Sometimes an ‘epic fail’ is even used as a ‘win’ because of the extremity of the failure itself. For example: A car reverses off of a bridge only to land on its wheels more-or-less unscathed.
• ‘Owned’ is used in situations whereby two subjects are involved. One person will be worse off than the other. One could say to be ‘owned’ is to be made a fool of.
• ‘Lolcat’ is a caption with a photo of a funnycat. The words can be in ‘cat slang’.
